The event will be broadcast live throughout Spain and on RTVE’s International Channel, with a potential audience of 400 million viewers. The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, formalizes an agreement with both public operators that guarantees the live broadcasting of contests and galas of the festival of Santa Cruz, together with local television stations.

The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will once again achieve the greatest television broadcasting and promotion thanks to the collaboration agreement formalized today by the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife with the Spanish Radio and Television Corporation (RTVE), and with the public entity Radiotelevisión Canaria (RTVC), which will allow distributing the signal of the main events of the festival at regional, national and international level.

The agreement involves the live broadcasting of the Queen’s Election Gala, scheduled for February 26, for all of Spain through La 2, and through the International Channel, with a potential audience of 400 million viewers, as well as on the RTVE and RTVC websites. For its part, Radiotelevisión Canaria guarantees the regional broadcasting of the main event of the Santa Cruz Carnival, as well as the broadcasting of the main events of the program of festivities, which will start on Friday, January 31.

The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, formalized today these commitments with the director of RTVE in the Canary Islands, José María García Mediano, and with the General Administrator of Radio Televisión Canaria, María Méndez Castro, in the presence of the councilman of Festivities, Javier Caraballero.

Bermudez valued the importance of ensuring “that everyone can access to see and enjoy this festival of International Tourist Interest,” to which he added that “it will be a complete broadcast in which all our Carnival events will be retransmitted. It is a good agreement for all parties: the carnival, the city council and the televisions”.

For her part, the General Administrator of Radio Televisión Canaria, María Méndez Castro, pointed out the importance of the carnival of Chicharras for the programming of the autonomous public entity “which is our most international festival”. On the other hand, he also stressed that “there will be more than 80 hours of broadcasting spread over 7 weeks in 6 different locations, which shows the demand that we put so that the carnival reaches every corner of the Islands”.

José María García Mediano, head of Radio Televisión Española, wanted to emphasize that from RTVE “we will try to offer everything in our power” and stressed that “we want this carnival to have a global impact and to be broadcast on five continents, and we will do it through our international channel.

Televisión Canaria will be in charge of producing the signal of the Queen’s Election Gala, which will reach the five continents through RTVE’s International Channel, by means of four different signals, in order to adapt the broadcasting to the prime time, in addition to La 2. On the other hand, RTVE will be in charge of producing the signal of the Ritmo y Armonía contest in this new edition.

Likewise, RTVE’s news coverage in entertainment programs, Telediarios and Canal 24 Horas is guaranteed. In addition, it will be covered through national programs of RNE and international programs of Radio Exterior. La 2 will also broadcast live for the entire Canary Islands the Coso Apoteosis del Carnaval, scheduled for Tuesday, March 4.

In the same way, José Manuel Bermúdez assured that the television broadcasting of the whole program will be completed, in agreement with the local television stations interested in offering those events that RTVC cannot broadcast live, such as the children’s murgas contest, the comparsas contest, the musical groups contest and the Canción de la Risa (Laughter Song).

The agreement includes the broadcasting by Televisión Canaria of the phases and final of the adult murgas contest, as well as the children’s murgas contest, musical groups, choreography contest, comparsas and rondallas, the Gala de Elección de la Reina Infantil, the Gala de Elección de la Reina de los Mayores, the Cabalgata Anunciadora and the Coso del Carnaval, in addition to one of the two events of the Carnaval de Día (Daytime Carnival). The regional channel undertakes to make available to interested local channels the signal of the events it broadcasts on a deferred basis.

RTVC is also committed to carry out a powerful promotional campaign of all the Carnival events before and during the celebration of the same, with a coverage that will also include its broadcasts on the Internet and Canarias Radio.

The events of the next edition will revolve around Los Secretos de África and will begin on Friday, January 31, on the esplanade in front of the Cabildo of Tenerife, with the Inauguration of the Carnival, where the candidates for Queen, in its three modalities, will be presented.
